Waste oil has a high-energy value. Therefore, it is worthwhile to utilize it. To do so, the oil has to be reformed into a fluid that power-producing units can manage. Next to the achievement of a good viscosity, also metallic parts within the waste oil have to be removed. Metallic parts occur due to abrasion of the machines.

Carrier material for the waste oil is BERAHN®-Carbon out of rubber recycling. Due to its porosity, the carbon suits very well.

For one metric ton of waste oil one needs 794 kg of carbon or, in other words, one metric ton of carbon adsorbs about 1.26 metric tons of waste oil. In the upcoming table, you can see what amount of end-products are produced after treatment of the waste oil with the CRS-BERAHN®. Different kinds of machine waste oil have been treated.

Input Amount Unit ———————————————————
soaked Carbon 1 794 t
of which Carbon 0.794 t
of which waste oil 1 t
End-products out of waste oil
Oil 83% 0.83 t
Gas 15% 0.15 t
Adsorptions Material
Carbon (cleaned) 100% 0.794 t

The end-products gas and oil can directly be utilized in a power-producing unit (such as CHP) to produce power and heat/cold. Of course, it is possible to collected and sell the oil. The steel shavings, separated from the carbon, are collected as well. The cleaned BERAHN®-Carbon is ready for reuse. The same carbon can be used up to ten times.

One CRS-BERAHN® module treats about 2.6 mt of waste oil per day (24 hours). One process lasts eight ours.

Design of the Waste Oil Recycling Plant

Mainly, the recycling plant has the same design as a plant for rubber recycling. The CRS-BERAHN® modules are configured especially for the recycling of waste oil. The filling takes place automatically with a system that is design to handle bulk goods.

Disposal of oil disaster

Oil catastrophes on water and land belong to the most disastrous accidents. Direct consequences are perceived immediately in flora and fauna. If an oil carpet catches fire on top, enormous amounts of polluting emissions are set free, too. With BERAHN®-Carbon, such disasters can be disposed promptly and on the ground. The carbon serves, at is it for waste oil recycling, as adsorption and carrier material. During an adsorption process, a possible fire will be extinguished due to deoxygenation at the same time. Sucked with oil BERAHN®-Carbon is swimming even on sea and inland water.

Oil tanker, harbors, or agencies in charge of turnpike or street maintenance can store BERAHN®-Carbon. If an accident occurs, the carbon just needs to be distributed over the polluted area and later on collected. Afterwards and CRS-BERAHN® cleans the contaminated carbon for reuse.
